Never mind the iPhone, Freerunner is the next phone to buy
For those wondering what the progress on the Openmoko Freerunner is, why aren't you on the mailing list? :) Just kidding, hmmm, maybe not. For those mildly interested in the Openmoko project, the testing is over and (if all goes to plan) this week there will be a production run in the factory in China.
Then all kinds of assembling stuff has to occur, packaging, shipping etc. etc. but the thing is, after this week, there will be real phones ready for shipment all over the world that are created in the most open fashion one could ever have imagined in the phone industry.
Another cool thing, is that the phones can be bought from resellers other then Openmoko (or FIC). There are confirmed resellers in India, Germany and England and talks are being held with one in France. And there is a US Openmoko point where you can buy as well.
The British reseller is talking about shipping it to their customers at the 1st of July so start doing the happy dance is all I can say at the moment. Come next month we will have a real open source phone in our hands.
